Spending more than half the summer in the Meadows lab has allowed me to learn so much more than I could have ever learned by spending only a couple hours every other day there during the school year, which is all I would have time for. The most rewarding aspect of spending the summer here was being able to learn how to carry out a whole procedure own my own, from start to finish. During the year, and even the first few weeks of the summer, I was just seeing fragments of experiments, and having a hard time piecing them together. Now, there is time for me to learn the whole procedure and understand the purpose for every step. The processes are no longer blending together because each distinct step has a reason that I’ve had time to appreciate. If I wouldn’t have spent the summer in the Meadows’ lab, I would imagine that it would have taken me all of junior year to even master half of what I’ve learned so far. It’s been a great experience so far and I can’t wait to report back with more news!
