Summer Internship at RxArt

Hi guys! My name is Ella Lambert, and as I write this, I am finishing up my sophomore year at Tulane (ah!! halfway done!). I’m originally from right outside of Chicago, Illinois, but I am absolutely in love with New Orleans. I am majoring in Communications and Digital Media Production, with a double minor in sociology and fine arts, which makes for a really cool combination of courses that allows me to be both in the business world and creative. I love drawing and painting, and I’m hoping to develop my graphic design skills during my semester abroad next year.

This summer, I’m going to be working at RxArt as their Social Media/Design/Marketing intern and I. Am. So. Excited. RxArt is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help children heal through the extraordinary power of visual art. They commission exceptional contemporary artists to transform sterile healthcare facilities into engaging and inspiring environments full of beauty, humor, and comfort. At RxArt, I’ve identified five learning objectives I plan to achieve by the end of the summer. These are:

  1. Gain a deeper understanding of social media and branding
  2. Further develop leadership skills
  3. Gain experience working in a non-profit
  4. Practice independence and taking responsibility
  5. Make connections with people who may be able to advise me in the future

I think I absolutely will be able to accomplish these things (and hopefully more!) in my time at RxArt. Their mission is incredibly important to me, and working with children and art are two of my passions. However, what really drew me to this internship was the current staff. RxArt is operated by a team of just 5 women, all of different ages and backgrounds. When I visited their office earlier this semester, I was blown away by how confident, impressive, and passionate each of them was. They each represent a version of what I’d like to be in 5 years, and I’m super excited to learn from them. The size of their team also means I’ll have a lot of control and responsibility in my position. I start my internship May 23rd which is super soon! Since I’ll be running the social media, to prepare I’ve just been checking up on their posts, newsletters and such, trying to get a good sense of what their brand identity is and areas for improvement. I’ve also been keeping in touch with the woman who will be my direct supervisor this summer, and she’s been super great at sending me updates and materials to look over. I can’t wait!unnamed.png
