I am so… so…. SO…. very excited for this semester with Lift Louisiana. I am excited for many reasons. One is that I get to combine my passion for film and reproductive rights into one. Last semester, my supervisor, Michelle, assigned me and another intern, Janna (a former intern of this same program with NCI) to do a YouTube video on the Tampon and Diaper Tax. This legislation was up for discussion this legislative session, so it felt extremely good to be apart of that conservation even though I am not some fancy know-it-all representative in a suit. We made the video as a vlog AKA a video diary to appeal to audiences our age and show how we should normalize reproductive rights topics into our own lives. I’ll provide the link at the bottom.
This semester I have been assigned another major video project. I plan to shoot a “Who are we?” themed video. I want to go into the creation of Lift Louisiana and why it is so important. I want to talk about the supports of Lift, both organizations and individuals, and how they have contributed to the vison of Lift. I also want to give shout outs to Lift Louisiana Staff and give back ground to who does what behind the scenes. I want to video to premiere on Nov. 8th, for our annual fundraiser.
I am also working closely with our diversity coordinator at Lift to make sure the organization as a whole is representing all walks of reproductive life, including all marginalized communities, like trans and non gender conforming people and Black women. I hope to have a S.M.A.R.T. Goal list and bylaws to be ready for next semester!
