Halfway through at Tri-City…

I have reached the halfway point of my internship and have learned so much and could not be more thankful for the opportunities I have had so far. By working directly with Medical Integration, I have learned a vast amount about Parkinson’s disease and its progression once diagnosed. I have sat with clients when they sign up for Mi programming and get to be face to face with people directly suffering from the disease. IN addition to Mi Neuro, I have been able to learn so much about disease and fitness and their connection through the other Mi programs offered by Try City. Through Mi Neuro, Cardio, Ortho, and Strength, I have learned the member’s names and seen how much this program has helped change their lives for the better.

I try to make sure each day I am learning and helping the team. Most recently, I learned how to do manual blood pressure, and found out that this is actually a much more accurate way to measure blood pressure for people with ailments that affect their health. It took a few tries but I found it so interesting and I am so thankful for the opportunity to learn.

Currently, I am helping the team develop a new program for the center. I have researched extensively the effects of boxing and Parkinson’s disease and have learned so much about the positive and amazing effects of introducing that kind of programming into patients lives. The team and I are slowly progressing to hopefully have a boxing class at the center.

This internship has allowed me to become confident in my skills. My advisors have given me more responsibility and leadership with projects, and trust my feedback and opinions on projects. I design most of the media for the team now and my mentors trust my design eye and to produce my best work.

By giving me more and more tasks that include more responsibility, I have learned how to record testimonials and create media for the Mi team that highlights the great work the programs are doing. As a result of my mentors seeing and continuing to give me more difficult and lengthy tasks, I have been able to hone in on my design and research skills and be able to address customers and members directly without the supervision of my superiors.

I am excited for the remainder of my internship and can’t wait to see what is in store.
