Organizing for change with NOAF

Hi everyone, I’m Trent, and I’m so excited to be back working with the New Orleans Abortion Fund again this semester! I’ll be working closely with Steffani Bangel, our supervisor and intern co-facilitator, and our stellar team of interns to train a core base of volunteers to canvass with us and expand the reach of our organization. I want to thank NCI for giving me the opportunity to apply my Public Health major to real-world issues and work at a nonprofit. and I’ll be developing curriculum for a training program, hosting canvassing events throughout the city, and introducing new people to our organization.

As with my internship over the summer, I’ll be participating in the many events that NOAF is involved with, starting conversations about abortion access and promoting reproductive rights and reproductive health. I’ll be leading a training seminar for canvassing volunteers, teaching the necessary skills to have effective and informed conversations with those around them to continue the great and powerful work that they’re interested in. Working with people who live in and around the city, and partnering with organizations and individuals nationwide, we hope to continue the rapid growth of our organization and fully fund more and more abortions around New Orleans. We also hope to spread discourse about abortion in the city and cause shifts in policy and laws that ensure equal treatment and equal access to abortion under the law.

My goals for this internship term are ambitious, but with the help of the NOAF team, we’ll be able to spark a new round of conversations backed up by facts and not rhetoric. By doing that while also providing training and resources to those wishing to know more, we’ll be able to reach more people around New Orleans and continue the meaningful work we’re doing. I’m so glad to be anRRRH intern this term!
